Re Q8's pics
For the first, the slanting road bridge should give it away (but my memory fails) For the second it MUST be a GWR station but I cannot tie in a District excursion onto GW metals with 4th rail (and it AIN'T Sarfend).
EDIT 1. How about Edgware Road
2. What about Ealing Broadway?

Why must it be a GWR shop? It is not anywhere near. I will give a further clue.
#I love to go a-wandering#
and for number 1 picture 'Morning Guvnor'

The catch has nothing to do with the train indicator whatsoever. It's the actual locations.

Oh I am loving this! ;D ;D ;D I will give a further clue. " Along time ago and....." Far, far away..... Where does that leave us? This is beginning to bug me: if all the destinations are valid it can't be Notting Hill Gate. It's the skew bridge that's doing my head in - I'm SURE I recognise it but have forgotten from where

Now don't get frusrtrated lads. the reference to 'long time ago' is excatly that and I did not add anything more as it has no relevance. It is NOT 'far, far away' The place is still there.
However I will give two further clues. For No 1 - 'You'll be in the dark here' And No 2 - 'the same difference'

For No 1 - 'You'll be in the dark here' This suggests to me that its a disused station. Chris

No both stations are still open. A station does not have to be closed to be in the dark. You are gonna belt me when the answers come but as I have said there is a catch and a bit of deviousness in it. Now let us try and give a further clue to you all. This in respect of number one picture. I know it is not very clear but look closely at the TRACK.
Regarding both pictures, another clue is 'What you observe is not what you see'
Now collate all the clues so far and then have a go.

AAAARRRRGGGHH!
Long time ago: Mill Hill Park was renamed decades ago.
It still FEELS like Paddington, or even Baker Street rather than anywhere on the 'District Main Line'. It's got a 'North Side' feel to it.

Hee Hee!! This is fun!! ;D Actually it IS District Main line. No 'north side'. I keep trying to emphasise that 'what you see is not what you see' So THINK boys THINK.

Is number 1 a previous generation of Tower Hill station?
Number 2 is presumably now covered over, it does remind me of either Ealing Common or Acton Town though which is still open air.

No both stations are still open. A station does not have to be closed to be in the dark. So it might now be in tunnel where it wan't previously? Mill Hill Park = Acton Town Addison Road = Kensington Olympia

The second picture - Northfields (original station) Ahem....... I suggested it on the previous page, now Russ has it here too. Well??

I think it means we know it's Northfields, Colin... All we need to know now is how Q8's 'clues' were meant to be useful. The other pic has just gotta be Notting Hill Gate, as suggested by others previously, but I didn't know it originally had the same style of lamps as South Ken. Russ

THE ANSWERS
Well Gentlemen the places shown are >
1. St James's Park (1906) 2. Sudbury Hill (1920's)
Now as to the clues they were NOT meant to deceive but to guide you.
Clue 1. 'A wandering' was meant to make you think of District trains on the Rayners Lane Branch. (Phil was near there)
Clue 2. 'Morning Guv,nor' was meant to make you think of a place where the boss's are.
Clue 3. 'A long time ago' was meant to guide you to make you think historically
Clue 4 . 'You'll be in the dark' was a reference to SJP now being covered over (adw was spot-on)
Clue 5. 'The same difference' was my way of trying to tell you that although the stations still exist they have changed out of recognition.
Clue 6. 'What you observe is not what you see' was another way to guide you that although see those stations, if you went there today and saw, you won't see what you observe in the pictures.
I may have been a bit misleading with the clues but I could not think of other analogies. It was all meant in a bit of fun and it did get you all going so I hope you enjoyed it.
The source of the pictures was. 'The Metropolitan District railway' by Charles E. Lee. (Oakwood press, 1956. With acknowledgement for the photo's given to the LT library)

With respect, Q8, I don't believe either of those. (But the St James Park pic could be clarified by removing the blanked out nameboard of your posted image.)

Looking at the picture of the inside makes me think High St Ken - the walls supporting the overall roof look familiar. If I'm right, the walls are still there but the roof is gone.

You know that when someone starts with 'With respect..' they ain't going to show you any! The time to really worry though is when they start with, "With the greatest possible respect". ;D ;D For a master class in saying one thing whilst meaning the opposite watch "Yes Minister" and/or "Yes Prime Minister"
