Other than emergency timetables, the only time they do that is if there's no relieving driver for a train, so they reform which may lead to a different destination

On the line today, very busy (as usual!) The normal service seemed to be suffering gaps up the main line (Epping) with too much going round the loop (Hainault and N Park). What length of gap has to occur before the line controller even thinks of diverting a Hainault straight up? Indeed, on my way home tonight from Chancery Lane I just missed a Hainault train, the next one was also going to Hainault, train three was to Newbury Park and train four (~8 minutes away) was to Woodford via Hainault. The display did say "next Epping line train within 10 minutes" but from experience of living on the Epping line this just means there is a train going at least as far as Woodford via South Woodford within the next 15 minutes and it may be double that before a train is actually advertised as going as far as Epping (and short-tripping Epping trains at Loughton is far from unheard of either when there are gaps in the westbound service). This was advertised as a "good service" but I would not have described it thus had I needed an Epping branch train.

Think this is something that Central Line management have to address, Chris M.
BTW, I think "Next Epping Train" usually means that; a Loughton terminator is shown as such even withing the 10 minutes

There is a difference between "Next Epping train" and "Next Epping line train", I've seen both but can't remember if I've seen both at the same station. Trains to Woodford (via South Woodford), Loughton, Debden and Epping are all Epping line trains and "Next Epping line train" can mean any one of them. You only see the "Next ... train" message if all the trains the DMI can show are going to the same branch.
