They were originally three carriages, then extended to four before finally five. Software issues prevent any additional carriages being added. Well, you could - by reforming them back to three or four cars and running them in pairs as six- or eight-car trains. except for the issue of platform length and the need for passengers to walk through the train because of selective door opening.

First/MTR have also ordered Aventras to replace the Desiro Cities (Class 707) ordered by Stagecoach for the SouthWestern. Inevitably there will be a period when both types are operating side by side - now that WILL be an interesting comparison. I guess train enthusiasts may be interested. I doubt the average passenger, with a thousand other things on their mind, will make any sort of profound or detailed judgement. They may notice a train is new or has different seats but other than that? . They do notice changes to their environment - although new seats in an old train will attract more attention than a new train with similar seating arrangements to the old ones. Passengers will certainly notice if the seats in the Aventra are different from those in the Desiro City. My only journey on a 700 to date was standing room only, so I have only sat in a mockup of a Desiro City - I profoundly hope the Aventra will be an improvement on that.

They do notice changes to their environment - although new seats in an old train will attract more attention than a new train with similar seating arrangements to the old ones. When MerseyRail refurbished their 507/508s several years back many people thought that they were new trains, such was the extent of the work done on them. In particular 3+2 seating was ripped out and replaced with high-backed 2+2 seats.

This one is drifting off topic folks. Can we stick to discussing the class 345, thanks.

At the moment it forms the 10:35 Liverpool Street to Shenfield and the 11:39 Shenfield to Liverpool Street.

The station interchange announcement for Liverpool Street is clearly a sign of things to come with the Northern line already being mentioned as one of the connecting lines which of course isn't true at present with Tfl Rail services using the platforms of the mainline station. Only in December 2018 when Elizabeth line services use their own dedicated pair of underground platforms will the interchange with the Northern line at Moorgate make this announcement fully valid.

The problem with that however is that it will be incorrect for the peak time trains from Gidea Park to Liverpool Street mainline.

You can get from Monument to the Northern Line at Bank without passing through any gatelines.
Bank and Monument are considered one facility whereas Liverpool Street and Moorgate will remain separate just with both connected to the Elizabeth Line platforms.

I was referring to the length of the walk involved between them. As for the 345s, is the seating comfortable?

According to a TfL worker I spoke to, the PIS will be updated in stages throughout the year as necessary (as of yesterday they updated it so that an audible 'Mind the Gap' announcement is played when the message appears on the screen).

More comfortable than the 378's, but not exactly comfortable in the traditional sense of the word! Are any new train seats comfortable these days?

One of the first airport-bound travellers :-D Bit surprised to see this kind of tactile paving used for the doorways, especially when this kind was scrapped from the Jubilee line trains!

345 005 left Liv St this afternoon, empty bar quite a few orange jacketed staff (almost certainly a test or training), after the 15:00 train I was on.... forming the 15:07 to Depot...

I was on 005 on Tuesday and there was a delay at Manor Park. Several hi vi guys on board. Minor fault cleared. One problem is that the new train is working to 315 timings so it often has to wait at stations.

When are these likely to actually run in the peaks?

When are these likely to actually run in the peaks? I'm sure I read September somewhere. they have to have 11 trains in full service by September. Peak trains will happen once they are reliable in off peak running.

Or is it the existing train doing an extra run?

Peak trains will happen once they are reliable in off peak running. Peak commuters are more likely to hold the doors open (Especially at Stratford) so the real test would be once they are in peak service. I reckon they'll have some 315s on standby just incase

I'm yet to ride on an aventra but I've got barely any time free so does it do the 10:35 every day, every week day, was it a one off or does it do loads more services now that it has finally entered service
