Used to travel quite often on the A stock. Sometimes I would end up in a car with a wheel flat, which was very noticeable. I'm wondering whether the driver would be aware of a flat if it was in one of the cars at the end of the train, or whether the banging noise is only apparent in the affected car.

A driver is only aware of flats if on the wheels of the car they are in, however if present they are generally on the whole train and virtually always on at least one end of it.
