www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/the-key/Southeastern are to launch ITSO Key Travelcards soon. It looks like TFL may need to adjust its systems in order to accept the new upcoming smartcard on its systems, as southeastern tickets are currently valid on the tube at all times between Cannon Street and Charing Cross, even during peak rush hours. It's a great idea, as the majority of London bound train companies are on the smartcard system, probably only leaving Great Western and Chiltern out in the cold...

Are TFL not modifying their system anyway, eg, to accept ENCTS passes on the yellow pad rather than using the "clicker"?

TFL don't need to do anything, if Southeastern say, "we are changing our system and TFL say we are not accepting your new tickets then Southeastern could lump it or not change.
Having said that I am sure that it will have been done with collaboration and both sides will have sorted any issues.

LU POMs, TOMs and gatelines are already set up for the use of ITSO standard smart cards. 'The Key' is already in use by Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern customers whilst South West Trains also have their own implementation. Provided that Southeastern set up any relevant products correctly (and communicate anything else required to TfL) there won't be any issues with their usage.

Given that we are talking about Travelcards, if passengers are making split ticket journeys, such as a station in London to Boundary Zone 6 and then a different ticket to (eg:) Rochester, do they need to alight at the boundary zone to touch in / out?

No. The rules around Travelcards are the same as to whether it is a paper ticket or held on a smart card (be that Oyster or a TOC's own version).

Thanks Jack.
I wish the same was possible with PAYG, as there have been times when I've had to visit the ticket gates at East Croydon solely to end or start a PAYG journey.
What would be clever is the ability to 'split ticket' a journey in which the single / return ticket on an ITSO smartcard also ends or start a PAYG journey!
Maybe the post 2018 changes will include this ability.

This is only implemented at the moment as Southern Keygo, so extension of Keygo to London is possible in the future.
