I post the following purely from a historical perspective, in the full knowledge that London Transport driver Julius Stephen was murdered and a Post Office engineer, Peter Chalk, was critically injured as a result of the incident.I found a copy of London Underground Rolling Stock by Brian Hardy (1990 Twelfth edition) today at Theydon Bois bus rally - I would say that my youngest was into buses, however he fell asleep when traveling on Colin's bus . Anyhow inside the back pages I found small press cuttings from The Times and Daily Telegraph reporting the incident at West Ham. I thought I'd share these with members from an historical angle only. The IRA were prolific in the seventies. They tried to blow up a gasometer between West Ham and Bromley by Bow but only put a hole in it. I had an incendiary bomb go off in the booking hall at Sloane Square at midnight on Christmas eve. There was only me and an 18 year old station foreman on duty at that time, no night turns in those days.
Left luggage lockers disappeared from underground stations which were very lucrative as a source of commission for the booking clerks. Stations like Embankment every vagrant had his own locker and paid every day to keep it going.

I remember seeing it in the platform at West Ham on the way go a game at Upton Park a few days after. If I remember correctly, the bomber got on the wrong train (Eastbound) at Stepney Green.

Yes, would have been Plaistow, not West Ham!
