Last week I was at St Paul's travelling eastbound when the very informative driver announced that there were engineers inspecting the track at Liverpool Street and that traction current would be turned off.
As expected, only the doorway ceiling lights remained on but the train continued to make a noise from underneath. What could this have been, given there was no traction current?
We were on our way again after about 5 minutes.

The saloon emergency vent fans continue to run.
