Interestingly, TFL Rail were operating a service between Liverpool Street and Stratford today, terminating on platform 10a. Seemed a bit unnecessary and pointless, since the Central line covers that section more than adequately.

The cynic in me thinks its because they can at least put on some internal report that the route was only "part suspended" and opposed to being "closed" or "fully suspended".
To be fair though, Stratford can get ridiculously busy on weekends, so they may have wanted to continue to provide rail service to give some relief for the Central Line.

It would also have provided a service if anything had gone wrong on the Central line.

Also, it is a fair trek from the Central platforms at LS to the mainline concourse.
