Noticed today at Arnos Grove, in at least two of the three platform tracks, the sides of the running rails painted white.
Now I realise that the pointwork track on the Met. at Harrow has been painted white, allegedly to deflect the heat and reduce the potential of failures, but why at Arnos Grove, especially the tracks under the cover?
Confused ...... (but I guess there must be a good reason?).

Lots of track at Golders Green has been painted white I asked my io at the time and they didn't know why it's been painted white. I quite like the look of it!

The official reason I have been told is -
" .... to reduce absorbed heat to try and prevent distortion caused by rail expansion in hot weather" (on short length rails).

As someone who was directly involved in trialling painting the rails white summer last year at Wembley Park, I'm glad its gone JNP wide!
The reason is exactly what reganorak said. It's common practice across NR and not so common on LU (apart from some golden assets such as the diamonds north of Harrow north junction) until last year when we tested it.
