There was a defective train at North Greenwich today, caused by the 'round train circuit' cutting out as a result of the train believing the rear cab door was open when in fact it wasn't, meaning the train had to be driven to North Greenwich bay platform and reversed, delays were caused as this train was only able to move at 5mph on return to Stratford Market Depot. I was stuck in my cab and had to move into Charing Cross sidings while it was happening. Just wanted to inform all of you about what was happening in case any of you were caught up in the delays! My apologies however things like this happen when trains aren't maintained properly and it crucified the service yet again! Sowwy

Sowwy Thanks for the explanation Out of interest when you say Charing Cross sidings, does that mean the actual siding roads extending beyond the now-defunct platforms, or does it refer to the platforms as well?

Depends who you talk to. If service is up the wall and they have to direct you into Charing Cross, they'll often put you all the way into the overrun so they can fit another train into the platform if needed

I was on the eastbound train that was held at North Greenwich while the defective train made it's stately progress into the bay road. Our train operator kept us all informed all the way to Stratford though.

Yes I had to go all the way into the siding as a couple of trains behind mine had to be reversed in platforms 3 and 4. Nearly got crucified as I had to wait at Green Park for 20 minutes with a bunch of people complaining, then the LC told me to tip out and make my way to CHX. Here's me hoping for a quiet day tomorrow!

Is it auto into Charing Cross or manual once you go over the crossover at Green Park?

Yes it is auto into Charing Cross, everywhere on the line is ATO excluding depots where PM is required and RM in areas such as Klondyke at Neasden on the south. However most drivers go PM to Charing Cross as the controller doesnt really complain
