Hi, Today I was on the Central Line in the Stratford area and when I came off the train at there seemed to be smoke rising from about 2 meters from the end of the platform. Anyone know what caused it or know some more about what happened? I did take a Video and I will try and find it. Also is it related to the power problem in the Bow area that happened today? Thanks, Dan Edit: here is the video

It was what used to be called slight smouldering from around the live rail at one of the signalling loops.
They ran a train across it which reduced the smoke for a short while.
Fire extinguishers were at the ready but it was necessary to try and avoid holding trains between stations before the power went off to allow someone to walk down the track.
Left at this point to get a 97 bus to get to Leyton.

It was a defective conductor rail insulating pot.

Thanks for the information - I know this has happened at Barking once.

It was a defective conductor rail insulating pot. I find this interesting. Considering the insulating pot is ceramic, is it the case that it cracks and allows a 'leaking voltage' from the rail to the wooden sleeper, and that causes the 'fire?'

Concrete sleeper, small amount of smoke for some time, flames not visible.
