Apologies if I've posted this on the wrong forum.
c2c had a cracked rail on the country bound line just outside of Barking. Nothing was running further then Barking. There is a picture of the crack on c2c's twitter feed.
Credit here to the driver of my District Line train(can't remember the train number), who started making very clear announcements about the issue from Blackfriars onwards. I thought I'd risk it, as sometimes c2c divert via Stratford using Gas Factory junction. This hope was short-lived and everyone(literally everyone at Fenchurch Street) was sent to Tower Hill. I finally made it to Barking at 18:15, having left Fenchurch Street at 17:10. Finally made it home at 19:30!
Needless to say all Eastbound District Line trains were madly busy! Had to let 4 go past at Tower Hill before I could get on.
