There is currently
So it looks like a pretty big problem at/with Harrow-on-the-Hill signal cabin - anybody know just what's happened?

Looks like a power failure in the Harrow area

Caught me on my way home from Finchley Road to Ruislip Manor. Fortunately before boarding a train. Took a Jubbly south (and another nasty moment when the driver told us that there was an 'incident' at London Bridge but we made it to Bond St), then a nice hot Central to South Ruislip and a bus. It's fun days like this that make me rather glad I no longer have to go in to town every day.

And presumably S8s in the siding at Rayners Lane?

Yep, S8s double shunting into and out of the siding. Another day of pure mayhem.

Strictly speaking my reply should be on the Jubilee thread, but as you raised it here and no mention there, the "incident" at London Bridge was a report of smoke in the tunnel. Obviously taken seriously as they subsequently suspended for at least an hour between Waterloo and Canary Wharf.

I wasn't making light of the problem at London Bridge; it was the driver who told us that he had no idea what was going on, (and that passengers feeling warm should step out of the train for a breather). When he called them back in a few seconds later he still didn't know what the problem was, only that he was clear to run to Waterloo.

During the height of the problem, a three train service operated Uxbridge-Rayners Lane (PICC Uxbridge service normal, Rayners Lane trains reversing at South Harrow); shuttles also running: Amersham/Chesham-Watford, Wembley Park-Aldgate.

I was in HOH cabin when the failure occurred. First, the north signal mains went then after 2 mins the south went. Even when the power was back up the indications north of the cabin were going off and on 'like disco lights' (to quote my colleague). Indications on the north roads south of the station took longer to come back.
Apparently 340 metres of faulty armoured cable had to be replaced.

Welcome along, and thanks for the information

As a footnote I was on a Chiltern that departed Marylebone at 1357, we were stuck at the boundary between NR & LU signalling for about 30 minutes then allowed to proceed to HOH where we sat at the platform for at least another half an hour. The driver should be complemented for keeping us informed as much as he was able.
We finally moved off having be given a green but told to wait five minutes before departing in case it reverted to red. Just had a email from TFL with a credit to my PAYG oyster due to an operational issue for the amount of the fare.
