No alternative of "I saw the dinosaurs die, and hired on to the railway shortly after they invented fire"? ;D

No alternative of "I saw the dinosaurs die, and hired on to the railway shortly after they invented fire"? ;D How about the alternative of, "I joined the railways before they invented the wheel. I've said once and i'll say it again, THEY were the days!"

[I am a little older than my tongue, but a little older than my teeth. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Then you must be unique. As I am exactly the same age as my tongue. I "was" a bit older then my teeth but they have now died before me so I am MUCH older than they were.

Typing ahead of my brain with a 2-year-old on my lap. It should have read "I am a little younger than my tongue and a little older than my teeth." Don't ask me to explain the age of your tongue bit. My father has always answered with this phrase and his upbringing on a farm in deepest Cambridgeshire may have something to do with it. Of course me quoting the saying myself means only one thing. I am turning into my father* ;D * That's no bad thing I suppose, he's done me alright over the years - just incase by chance he stumbles across the internet and even more by chance this website.

Of course me quoting the saying myself means only one thing. I am turning into my father LOL! ;D I think that happens to us all after a certain age (I'm not saying you're old btw, Citysig!). I constantly say things and do things my dad does, and even my daughter keeps telling me "You sound just like grandad!" I also have to be careful now, as my parents have recently invested in Broadband! I obviously have this forum saved in my favourites for when I'm up there, so they may browse in one of these days!

Oe, as my dear mother said to me a few months ago: "You could at least have told me that you were going on strike before I saw your name in the morning paper and on breakfast telly!" Sorry, mum!

I constantly say things and do things my dad does, and even my daughter keeps telling me "You sound just like grandad!" But with a touch of "Cockney"? So an earful from your daughter and a clip round the ear from your Dad. What joy!!!

a clip round the ear from your Dad. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Clip round the ear Gawd, I wish MY Dad had been so gentle mate. A bloody good larupping with a leather belt or a cane was what I got for misdemeanours. Still for all that I adored the man. I think a few of today's "misgiuded souls" would benefit from such treatment. The do-gooders would soon change their tune if it was THEM that had to put up with constant assaults/robberies/burgleries etc.

I wouldn't mind seeing punishments like that in schools. There are a few total pillocks who need teaching a lesson or two. Still, I take consolation in the thought that while i'm sailing through these exams, I look up (slyly, obviously!) and watch them struggle. Cruel? No. They deserve it. They had the chance to learn the stuff, but they didn't want to.

Are you beginning to dress like him? That's the trouble, it's not something you realise. Is a nice cardigan (even in today's weather) a sensible shirt and trousers, and a pair of those check-patterned slippers any clue of me starting? I would say tackling any problem head-on with a nice cup of tea was a sign but we here know that's more than acceptable to all age groups provided you consume a certain brand

It wouldn't benefit the "misguided souls" either. Their problems will take more than that, and using their own type of mindless violence back at them won't help the situation. Do-gooders aside, and let's face it they can get on your nerves, this is one area where they have it more right than wrong. Physical abuse helps neither party.

They had the chance to learn the stuff, but they didn't want to. The only problem with that is without qualifications, they can't get a job and we hard-working individuals end up paying through the nose in taxes to keep them in benefits. Sorry, I think this thread is drifting steadily off-course! ;D

You know, reading this, I started rolling my eyes so much that I actually caught a glimpse of my spinal cord. In approval Mr I, or disapproval?? Definitive disapproval. But as Alan L already has pointed out, that is hardly an apropos subject for this forum, so I'll leave it at that.

Therefore, decent punishments (like Q8 described) should be in place in schools so they actually have to learn something.
