I prefer the Upminster - Wilmbledon's. As i've said elsewhere, mainly because I don't have to change ends too often and I can smoke on the platform at both ends of the journey!! ;D

Personally, i'm a bit torn. I love going to Richmond, but then I have to go to Upminster afterwards and I don't like going up there, especially in the evenings and school holidays. Can't think why?!! Must be a pleasure/ pain thing.
Then there are the locals (edgware road to Wimbledon). Love driving C stock (westinghouse brake) and its a nice 30 minute trip, but 5 rounders on 1 duty can get a bit boring, so i've come up with my ideal journey. Richmond to Edgware road. ;D best of both worlds. Must have a word with scheduling.. . . . . .

Love driving C stock (westinghouse brake) Interesting you mention that just after you say: Had 4 hours of C stock last night - The back rest wouldn't adjust so I have now got a bad back for my weekend off, the TBC was so stiff to hold down, I've got a bruise on my left hand from having to press it down so hard, and the train was so sluggish I only had about 4 minutes turnaround at Wimbledon every trip instead of 15! Normal C stock then! I've voted for the Richmond - Upminster option. This is simply because I'd rather have a good long run than a load of short runs like Olympia's. I don't know why, but I much prefer going to Richmond than I do to Ealing or Wimbledon!

Quite right Q8, I remember when we discussed the UPM - UXB idea a little while ago, it'd beat Epping - West Ruislip! I might ride Hounslow - Upminster one day, I know I'd have to change at Acton but I could always imagine I'm in a D78 for the first bit!

I have to admit as a passenger it can be a bit hairy at that end too. Especially if you're on your own and about ten kids all drinking and doing things they shouldn't get on and start walking from car to car intimidating people. It's not too comfortable. Mind you on all my visits to London (which are many over the years) I've only had one occaision where I've recieved direct hassle, and that was on a SWT train to Chessington South. I find if you just remain calm it's the most sensible thing.

Mind you on all my visits to London (which are many over the years) I've only had one occaision where I've recieved direct hassle, and that was on a SWT train to Chessington South. I find if you just remain calm it's the most sensible thing. The best thing you can do is ignore and not get involved with the little runts. The East End of the District can be dodgy if you're unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time, but then again, this applies to anywhere nowadays? The last time I travelled as a passenger on the East End on my own was at 23:00, I had the option of waiting till midnight to catch a c2c service back to Barking then pick up the District for the short hop back to Upton Park or catching a District which was about to leave in 2mins all the way back. I chose the District as I know if I stay at an area for longer, the more chance you have of coming into contact with these 'chavs', whilst if you're always on the move, there's less chance. I travelled in the front DM car with in distance of an Emergency Plunger or the cab door so if I was to get attacked I could seek help quickly from the T/op on the other side by knocking on the door - fortunately I had the whole DM car to myself from Upminster to Barking where some late night workers got bored, that was about it. I've never really been attacked out and about, the only time I have came into close was when I was going on a trip to Holyhead. I needed to walk to Stratford from my House at Upton Park, this meant leaving my house at nearly 03:00 to catch the first 'one' service to Liverpool Street at 05:13, (remember there's no tube, there are Buses but I've never felt confident with the timetabling of Night Buses and none did actually pass on the way to Stratford, I could of rang for a Cab, but the price for the journey would of been a bit expensive so I had no other option than to walk) It was a lovely night until I was about 10mins away from Stratford station when a pair of yobo/chavs came out from a side road and demanded my Mobile to make a call, I have more common sense than to give these scum of society my Phone so I said 'sorry I don't have a Phone', they then demanded Money I then said 'No - I don't have any on me' (when in reality I had nearly £100 on me) they then approached me to try and check my pockets I moved back and one of the Yobs unfortunately spotted I had something in one of my Jean Pockets, it was my wallet, I said 'It's nothing' and then he came out with the typical chav language 'blad don't f**k with me' at this point I felt like running (luckily I'm quite a fast runner and because there was limited traffic on the roads at nearly 05:00 I could of ran basically anywhere I wanted with less chance of being hit by a Vehicle) Then the other Chav was getting 'bored' of me and said to his mate who was about to attack me, 'leave him and come on' - fortunately the one who was trying to attack me decided to listen to his mate and leave me alone and walk on, it was quite scary at the time, but I saw the side of how pathetic these chavs are, thinking about no body but themselves and thinking attacking others for personal items and money is an ok thing to do! Back onto Topic, I know I'm not a T/Op (yet, anyway ;D) but one of my favorite tube routes to do is the Met north of Finchley Road, mainly because of the varitey of things that you come into contact with enroute, such as Neasden Depot, an 8 track formation of the Met/Jubilee/NR Chiltern Lines north of Wembley Park station and non-stop running on fast services, also the scenery and stations beyond Moor Park. As for the District line, I kind of like all of it, every part of the line end to end has its own unqiue parts.

I've never had trouble on trains except having a few bits of food lobbed at me and my mates whilst on a night train from Weymouth. And guess what - they were chavs! Anyway, 442's are alright for night riding as the gaurd is always in the centre carriage and if you sit there, you are OK. If they say 'do ya like 'ospital food', just simply reply - "yes. I'm on BUPA and it's lovely." That'll probably annoy them a bit. My friend has a funny view of chavs. If he see's on of those really mouthy 12 yr girls he simply takes conselation in the thought that in a few months she'll be pregnant!
(sorry this is so off topic!) Why did the chav cross the road?
To punch someone randomly.

Heard a good one from my brother in Essex today. There is, apparently, a young man with porridge for brains living along the street from him. This gormless git has contracted thrush. "Nothing unusual" you might say. Until you find out he's got it on the wotnot.

Finally I've made me mind up.
Though (apart from OLY's) all have their own attractions, I guess that Richmond wins for me.
The down side is having to enter The Dark Side beyond Barking.....

The East End of the District can be dodgy if you're unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time, but then again, this applies to anywhere nowadays? Pretty much covers it, I think. I regularly travel from West Ham out to Elm Park late most Wednesday evenings (going through West Ham at about 11pm-ish) and have never had any trouble -- notably most of the Upminster runs are actually pretty well-populated. Yeah, you get the occasional drunk, but you get that even during the evening peak, so nothing new there. Probably the worst behaviour I've seen (and the only one which actually made me move cars) was some prats smoking pot in the carriage. Oh well...
