If this is in the wrong area then please move to the correct. As we have a senior person of the museum staff perhaps they may be able to throw some light as to what is happening at Loughton signal box. The signal box has been under the museum for a long time what is going to happen as the condition is getting worse both inside and outside, The frame is rusting surely it would be better to do something rather than leave to rot away slowly.

Can't **answer** the question, but echo its sentiments. There was talk of opening it as a museum annex sometime ago. Sure the local council would be interested....

The Loughton Town Council regularly makes grants to voluntary bodies in the town & is always interested in local heritage. It certainly isn't CHTL who own the box.

Yes the Loughton signal cabin was adopted by the Museum though I believe its maintenance may come under a different part of TfL. I'll check tomorrow and post again.

It's odd that although the cabin was designed by Murray Easton along with the station, in the same buff notched brick, the station is listed and the cabin isn't.

Sorry my update on this took a little longer than expected: The Loughton signal box was adopted by London Transport Museum, its maintenance still comes under London Underground - it is considered a heritage asset. We're aware that it has a few issues though from the outside it looks rather worse than it is, I'm told it's actually in pretty good shape. Work has been done on the cabin over the years to keep it sound and more recently to resolve access issues. It's one of a number of signal cabins that survive around the system that we keep watch on through locally based members of our team along with LU's Heritage Manager. To reassure those who are concerned for the future of the cabins - there are active discussions about their ongoing preservation.

Finished my signal career in Loughton cabin before transferring to the Picc as a driver. Though I never worked on the lever frame it would be a shame if it rotted away. Are the push button controls still in the cabin for Loughton Debden and Epping

Finished my signal career in Loughton cabin before transferring to the Picc as a driver. Though I never worked on the lever frame it would be a shame if it rotted away. Are the push button controls still in the cabin for Loughton Debden and Epping No , the NX panels reside in their respective stations since take over by Wood Lane. At Epping and Debden, they are in rooms off the platforms, and at Loughton the big one is on full public display in the Supervisor's office in the subway, behind a very large window....at least it was last time I went past there a year or two ago, when i noticed it still had all the Dymo embossed labels attached that i stuck on all those years ago. I went to the District, never looked back, still in Service Control today. The panels are all "ready to go" in the event of system failure....the beauty of the Loughton one is that savvy passengers can take a glance at it on the way to the platforms and see their train approaching from Buckhurst Hill or Debden. The panel is still there, just off the subway, as decaded says - is this the only one "open" to the public on LU?

Is the Saxby And Farmer Type 5 box at Boston Manor on the watch list as well? It is rather splendid and the last survivor on LU I believe.
