I suspect the final branding strategy for Elizabeth line/Crossrail is still unfinalised with Boris' introduction of the former near the end of the project having complicated what was previously assumed settled years ago.

Well I'm pleased to hear that. London's newest tube, in effect.
I thought it was going to turn into another 'can we?-can't we?' thing like Thameslink, or whatever they call it now.

I thought it was going to turn into another 'can we?-can't we?' thing like Thameslink, or whatever they call it now. Fortunately, Thameslink has lived on and hopefully Khan will see the fact for keeping Crossrail as a brand name before the name thing gets sour.

This brand-name business is understandable in a cut-throat capitalist economy; but how does it fit-in with urban transport run by one operator? Was it really better when you had to book with a different operator to go the other way round the Inner Circle? Is it important for a traveller to know the brand name of the engineering company which bored the tube? Why does it matter which line you take from Tottenham Court Rd., as long as you get to Ealing? The point is this: You can take the Central line or the Elizabeth line; either will do. Unless, that is, someone has decided to complicate things, and used 'branding' to erect purposeless barriers to travel, leading to such circumlocutions as: 'You can take the Tube to Ealing, or you can go via Crossrail (tm)', as if they are somehow different modes of transport, like 'taking the bus', or 'calling a cab'. We don't need it. And we don't need 'Thameslink', either. 'The Thames line' is quite succinct, and gets the message over nicely.

Elizabeth would be a faster journey. But I also think Tube no longer only means Underground.

I'd be so much happier if the exterior just said TRAINS the way busses are. Everything else fits with the TfL standard, except the roundel, really. At least they can't call XRail 2 "Elizabeth Line", fixing an issue we've had with Overground lacking route identity. Do you think the platforms are big enough so that in peak afternoons people who will be waiting for their train won't crowd the platforms, as much as you can say "take the first available train"

Naming Crossrail 'The Elizabeth' gives the appearance that it's part of London Underground rather than National Rail which I suppose gets people to use it more. However it should instead be a National Rail Line with red signs outside stations. Crossrail doesn't function like London Underground and I would be happy to see Crossrail integrated with British Rail if the railways get re-nationalized.
The stations look very nice although (sigh) PED's... Look forward to seeing Whitechapel when completed.

For a line (or network, actually) which extends from Cambridgeshire to the south coast and has only one station actually on the Thames, it's a very confusing message. Crossrail/Elizabeth crosses the Thames twice, the Jubilee four times. The line that stays closest to the Thames is probably the Hounslow Loop.

I'd argue for either C2C via Rainham or the Greenwich/North Kent/Chatham Line (London Bridge to Gravesend via Greenwich) as the line that most closely follows the Thames. If you're talking solely within London the DLR (Tower Hill to Woolwich Arsenal) is another contender.
