Drain suspended today (1/4/16) due to 'derailment of an empty train'. Where was that? Wherever it was it'll presumably be a challenge to sort out given the access issues. No indication of likely resolution time on the TfL site - anyone have an idea on that? I'd have thought the easy thing would be to say 'closed now until start of traffic Monday' but they don't seem to have done that so perhaps they have hopes of reopening today?

How long it takes to rerail a train varies considerably depending on several factors, including the access issues, how much of it has derailed (e.g. derailment of one axle will be much quicker to sort than a derailment of three carriages), and what damage it has caused to the track and/or train.

Trains reverse at Waterloo via the depot, so there are plenty of empty train movements.

Looks like it was a quick fix - line seems to be open now.

It was one of the first wheels of the leading bogie.

I appreciate people may not be able to give too much information if there is an internal investigation on-going, but as a fairly regular W&C user, did the derailment occur when leaving the arrivals platform to enter the central depot road to turn back, or on leaving the depot road to enter the departures platform? Either way glad it was only leading bogie as it could have been quite tricky to sort if a bigger derailment.

The latter. I understand the derailment occurred on the trap points after a SPAD.

It was one of the first wheels of the leading bogie. One wheel only ? What about the second wheel of the concerned axle ?
