Another question based on an ancient timetable I'm afraid! ;D
I've been perusing Metropolitan District Railway Working TT No 107, (4th July 1932 - extension of the LER to South Harrow) after removing the rusted staples, sewing it up and gluing the cover back on.
At the bottom of the 'West to East and Inner Rail' page there is the occasional column note with 2 section marks saying: 'Shunt to No. 1 siding at Barking through Automatic Crossover Road'
Anyone know what or where it was at Barking? It seemed to be used for reversers when there was no (un)coupling and the turnaround was less than 10 minutes.

As you will see No. 1 Siding was an extension of the line through No. 4 Platform to the east of the station. For a wider, but less detailed, overview of the station layout at the time see www.geocities.com/idsmesig/Signals/MysteryLocation.PDF

It might be my highly evolved technological ineptitude, but when I follow the link or cut and paste it the 'pooter goes *coff* *coff* **splut**. I'll try again at work. Many thanks for posting the information - when I can force the electrolithomatron around to my way of thinking we'll be dancing!

I've been mulling over this during the evening - would District terminators (I don't mean the Forum Admins ) arrive at Barking and go to platform 4 - through trains would stay on the down local and use platforms 1/2? Would it be possible to see the other edges of the diagram, please? I know the points aren't numbered - was the diagram just an aid to District motormen to see what signals apply to them?

District terminators (I don't mean the Forum Admins ) Now theres an idea - hmmm........... ;D ;D ;D On a general point, that don't 'alf look like a complicated layout - I'm glad it's a lot simpler these days!
