.... when you read something it gets you thinking. This is what I read:
'Running Inspector, Finsbury Park, to arrange for the position of the 6 and 4 car trains stabling in No. 2 road Finsbury Park to be reversed before close of traffic, if necessary, for coupling up the next day.'
The quote in question comes from Timetable Notice 153/63, which applied to the Northern City line which detailed the early closing of the whole line and a substitute bus service running in the evening after about 2000, unless there was a foopball match at Highbury.
My questions are thus:
1. How long were the platforms at Finsbury Park? Obviously the running metals could safely accommodate 10 cars, were the platforms that long?
2. Which was No. 2 road? I'm guessing that it was the Southbound, but the only notes I've got refer to platforms 3 (NB) and 4 (SB).
3. Did the signalling at Finsbury Park/Drayton Park have an 'X' signal on the approaches to Drayton Park? I'm thinking of post 1953 when the old 'box closed at Drayton Park and levers 1-5 in the new box controlled Finsbury Park by push-pull (like Elephant on the Bakerloo). Does anyone out there have a full diagram for Drayton Park (new) 'box after 15/3/53?
4. Why would there be a reference to the old 'box at Drayton Park opening 'when required for shunting and dividing trains'? This comes from a 1963 WTT when the old signal box had apparently been closed for 10 years!
Any thoughts/input gladly welcomed - many apologies for the slightly obscure questions. You can see that CSLR's fab quiz has prompted me to look at my sparse GN&C notes.
