Think it was about 1995 or 1996 when the '56ts was scrapped... I remember London Road/Rosedene Avenue [?] being closed off as a convoy of low loaders each backed into and out of the depot to take them away...
a small fleet of 62ts was indeed transferred from the Central in the early 1990's to keep the services running to an acceptable level... They could be distinguished by having the red parking light outside of the running lights... And... I did hear once of a very funny event where someone tried to couple a 3 car 59ts to a four car 62ts...
Whoops!

56's,59's and 62's did run together. There were minor equipment differences, but nothing to stop them running as 7 or 8 car trains, indeed, when a 62DM was away at Acton for repair spare 59DM 1070 was marshalled to lead the unit for a short while. For the life of me I can't remember what the 62 unit was.

The resident Aldwych 1962 TS unit did go out occasionally on the Picc main line, coupled to a 1959 Stock say. Dampflok has posted a photo, if you can search for it, with a 1956 Stock on the WB fast at Ravenscourt Park if I remember correctly.

We had several 62s on the Picc over the years. 1750 was the first and often went on the main with a 4-car 59. I always looked forward to getting it because the flat plate over the controller gave you somewhere to put the tea can.
Differences I can recall: - MG indicator was on the offside of M door - Flat top to controller - Fuse labels were white transfers instead of stencils - e.p. brake valve plugged in instead of wired in - Different type of MAR set up. Voltage regulator on 59s with MAR on 62 IIRC. - Slightly different body panelling arrangement at car ends
Anyone remember anything else?

thanks for that guys I did remember taking a 1959ts coupled to a 62 you could tell you were on a 62 stock due to the red and grey seat covering and on the 62 stock there was big red lettering as the 59 stock had small blue lettering plus I think the westing house applications sounded different

Door valves on 59's were also hard wired.

Now let's get something clear. The 56TS is not old stock. It was manufactured after I was born.
Standard stock is old.

I used to like the 56TS, as they had deeper seat cushions, more akin to the 38TS. although not as comfortable. However, when compared to the 92TS seats, sheer luxury!

well we just call the 56ts old stock beacause they don't run anymore the 56,59,62 ts were pretty reliable and the seats were very comfortable beacuase people decided it was fun to break the springs they were also built to last as much as people may like the 1995 stock the interiors are falling apart and they get very hot plus the former stock had slit windows to let in more air and had guards so you could travel in the rear car at night but with the feeling you were safe, all the present stock just have CCTV cameras that not even the driver can see.

The 1956 Stock was withdrawn from service as follows:
02.12.91 - 1000-2000-9001-1001 01.07.93 - 1004-2004-9005-1005 01.09.93 - 1006-2006-1007 10.11.95 - 1008-2008-9009-1009 01.05.96 - 1002-2002-1003 21.05.96 - 1010-2010-1011
Disposal dates are, of course, much different.
Unit 1000-2000-9001-1001 went to Upminster for arrestor tests and was scrapped from there.
Unit 1010-2010-1011, the last in service, was withdrawn unceremoniously after it ran over a dislodged metal bin in the tunnel north of Hampstead. It was deemed not worthy of repair.

Where there many differences between the 56ts and the 59ts in terms of equipment?
