Apologies to the mods if this is in the wrong board, feel free to move! MerseyRail have revealed their shortlist of five builders for their 507/508 replacements: www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/five-worlds-leading-rail-companies-10717926That's right, five. I struggled to think of three builders before I opened the article! How is this relevant to LU/LO? Two aspect signalling with trip-cocks, and LO had 508s before the 378s were introduced.

I hope they choose a better livery. The current one must be among the worst in the UK

Five to choose from. Which one safeguards the most British jobs?

The Bombardier train would no doubt be assembled in Derby. The Alstom bid may potentially have some British involvement, depending who does what in the partnership. But a lot of the components such as Pickup shoes, Lighting, safety systems, couplers, walkways, brakes, etc will almost certainly be made in Britain, regardless of who actually assembles the trains!

Not a simple decision to make. Many factors involved.

The Class 332 for the Heathrow Express were of course a joint venture between Siemens and CAF, perhaps the article should have made that clear.

Apparently "Siemens Transportation Systems Ltd of Great Britain is the main contractor, with CAF of Spain responsible for mechanical equipment and final assembly."

I hope they choose a better livery. The current one must be among the worst in the UK Agreed its awful and looks scruffy even new, I hope they build more cars so that all if not most trains can run in 6 car formations rather than 3 as they are seriously overcrowded at times.

I'm sure I read that they are planning for a reduction in fleet size, presumably they're banking on increased availability. This is the problem with a politically driven fleet replacement plan, for which the business case is evidently not really strong (at best).
