Hi,
What would make great (print) reading about the Metropolitan railway, Metro-land, the urban sprawl of London and the reform of the London government in 1965?
Thanks in advance.

Eric Jackson wrote a textbook on the 1965 reorganisation, entitled The London Government Act 1963. That might be a bit legalistic and technical. For a quick overview, see the wikipedia article on the same heading.

On the urban sprawl-Alan A Jackson's Semi-detached London. Still unbeatable since publication in 1973. And by the same author, London's Metroland. Both are available on Amazon as we speak/type/read. On the transformation from LCC to GLC, Eric Jackson also wrote Achievement, a Short History of The LCC in 1965 & believe it or not-it's also on Amazon.

Also, H P White's Regional History of the Railways of GB - Greater London, though old, is still good on the railways and suburban expansion of London. HPW was a professor of geography and can be relied on for the spatial aspects of the subject (as opposed to railway technical stuff.
