It seems that London Underground have their trains built somewhere up north, possibly Derby. How are the completed trains (for example "S" stock and 09TS") brought to their assigned depot? Also are there any new trains currently being assembled? For which line?

It actually depends who's building them, where they're built, but the S stock fleet is being built by Bombardier in Derby and so was the 2009 stock fleet.
The S stock came by rail via the Chiltern lines into Ruislip depot, from where it's very easy to get to the Met (connection with Ruislip siding). There is a rail connection between the Chiltern line and Ruislip depot.

The S stock are (almost time to say were!) delivered by rail from Old Dalby (where they are tested before going to london) to either Amersham and onto Neasden, or Ruislip and then to Neasden.
The 2009 stock were delivered by road as they foul the Network Rail loading gauge and most other LU lines, and there isn't a rail connection to the victoria line depot at Northumberland park. The previous new stock (95TS for the northern line) was also delivered by rail from the Alstom Washwood Heath factory in Birmingham (since demolished)
The last S stock is currently being assembled at Bombardier Derby, at which point it will go to Old Dalby for testing and then down to London. After that the next new trains will be the new tube for london, which is still in a formative stage and eventually going onto the Bakerloo, Piccadilly, Central and W&C lines

Surely the next "new" tube trains will be the modern equivalent Jubilee and Northern Line extra trains - assuming, of course, that an order is placed for them fairly soon. You never know Boris might just sign off a tube train order in his final few weeks in office. Only taken him 8 years. Looking at the forward plan for major projects approvals seems the Jubilee Line paper is due at the Board Feb 2016, Northern Line Mar 2016 and contract award in Spring 2017.

I once saw a new DLR train arriving on the back of a flatbed lorry!

That won't happen as the timescales for contract award will fall under the new Mayor's tenure. As an aside - when the Jubilee 7th cars and additional four trains were ordered Alstom built them in Spain as they no longer had a construction facility in the UK. These were delivered by road from the factory in Barcelona, in fact some of the vehicles ended up briefly stored at Asfordby. Regards, Dan

Where the bodies for the main order for the 1995/6 stock not made in Barcelona? I know they were built at Washwood Heath but I assume the sections were fabricated in Spain?

I remember reading years ago that the carriage works at Doncaster were closing due to a lack of orders. A week later I read that the Heathrow Express EMUs were being built in Spain, Zaragoza I think?
