Thanks Chris. I should be able to model from that pic. The one in Brian Hardy's surface stock book on the back of an F stock is good but slightly different again so there must have been a change in design a some point.

I did two weeks on night shift at Stanmore in the '50s which included cleaning and filling the Tail Lamps of the trains stabled in the sidings and the lamp shown on the OP train in Chris's pic looks about right. There may have been other makes but they were all very similar and I did not notice any difference. The reason for the Tail Lamp was to indicate that the Train was complete (mainly for Manual Absolute Block signalling) and the use of the 'old fashioned oil lamps' was that they were independent of the traction current. After a couple of nights I seemed to be the only one cleaning the Bakerloo lamps so I started marking the ones I had done. After the two weeks I found that more than half had been dealt with by me before so I had an easier time of it. :-)
