My attention has been drawn to this very interesting map: www.cryptart.com/tube/codemap.pdfIs it real or bogus? I confess I have never heard of Melton Street disused station.

Where's Melton Street on that map? - I can't find it. (Post typing check - found it in the bottom list of stations). I can't find any mention of it either. Perhaps it refers to the old CC&H station building before the Euston rebuild?
I've seen this map before, and the thing that strikes me most isn't the things on it, it's the things not on it. For example, the Northern Heights are shown, but not the Denham extension. The Picc extension to Waterloo is shown, but not the branch from Latimer road to Addison Road. We have the Bakerloo and Victoria extensions, but not the Hounslow town branch.
I wonder if they're assuming that proposed lines will follow that route if built, but closed sections were done for a reason. That doesn't explain the Highbury branch of the Northern line being shown though.

It's a genuine map, but it doesn't have some of the more interesting codes on it, such as the original one for North Greenwich (F026).

Excuse my ignorance but what does BRS stand for?

I haven't got a clue.
The map is also referred to as the LCS map, LCS standing for Location Coding System or something similar.

The LCS term replaced BRS but they are basically the same thing. I remember from reading up one of the standards once, BRS is bibliographical retrieval and search.

I've seen this map before, and the thing that strikes me most isn't the things on it, it's the things not on it. Indeed, even with my limited knowledge I can think of the odd siding that has been left off the list. I suspect other members of this forum could name several.

That is a new map (I can't explain the date on it though). I think I have a copy of the old one somewhere though; for those that might remember it didnt have dashed lines atall.

As far as I can remember BRS stands for British Reference System , it is useful for maintenance since the distances are shorter than 10 km, and usually less than a kilometre. Seems a bit disingenuous to use a vile metric system and dare to call it 'British' however the old system of chainages can run on in a continuous series for 400-plus km. We still use chains on my railway - car(riage) mileage is calculated in millions of chains. (which isn't bad on a 7 mile, 28 chain run)
