Where do you put the coal? I'd be a bit more worried about the height of the overhead wires looking at the size of the pantograph on that.

Yes, the diesel powered the electric traction motors. Type "class 50" into a search engine for more info.

It is, in fact, a 'Diesel outline' model, referring to the fact that only the outside appearance has been modelled, rather than the entire machine.
