Hi there,
I don't think that this subject has been brought up before, (I did search for it to no avail) lol.
But i am a 'Friend of the London Transport Museum' and i am really interested in the hopefully forthcoming Q Stock project that will be coming to pass.
I was wondering if there are any other members that are 'Friends' as well, and if they were interested in the project.
I would love to help in a 'Hands-on' fashion although i am limited in my knowledge, i don't really have any practical skills to be honest. Except for a Electrical Engineer 1st Class from Cadets but thats about it. ;D
Anyways i digress, Back to Q Stock i'd love to help out in a 'hands on way' and if there was anyone else that was going to volunteer in a similar way perhaps we could talk it over some more as i am abit... uneasy about just walking up and saying 'Hi can i Help?'
Im stupid and this is a really long post now, lol. Im throwing it open to you guys, lol.

But NEVER be scared to ask a question or enquire.. if it has you'll be pointed in the right direction by one of us ;D ;D ;D Best wishes Christopher

Having literally just returned from the meeting at 55 Broadway (I'm still feeling queasy after plummeting seven floors in the lift), and having discussed things a little with the Chairman, I can add the following.
The project is currently at the stage of auditing what exists. Initial observations indicate that the interiors are pretty much all there (even in the car that looks far worse for wear). The mechanics now need to be looked at to establish what is missing, and condition of everything else. Once this audit is completed, more accurate timescales and costs can be worked out.
The project proper will be launched at the AGM in April, along with the fundraising drive. Possible ideas include sponsored seats and advertising panels, although that would probably only be to the extent of an acknowledgement in a corner.
I didn't ask about volunteering (although I meant to), but get the impression that the current stage is best handled by people who know the old ladies inside out, and can hence easily spot gaps and broken stuff. I'd think that there is likely to be more opportunity for general help when restoration begins.
There are of course many other things that you can volunteer to do. The latest newsletter mentions that there is consideration being given to having volunteering positions at the depot on Saturdays, to coincide with additional depot tours now being run on the last Saturday of each month.
