As this is thread is primarily about Aldgate I'll just give a link... Liverpool Street Central Line Signal Box November 1991.btw, this was in a room just off the westbound platform and I was standing just outside / in the doorway. In 1991 I was an adult, but in the 1970s I used to peer into here when walking past (changing trains / going to the subsurface platforms) in the mornings whilst on my way to school. Sometimes I would be invited in and shown which lever, knob and dial performed which function. This included how the signalman operated the next train describers plus about the fail-safe nature of the lights which show the locations of the trains. The signalman also made sure that I never stayed for so long that I might be late for school. Happy memories For years afterwards I wished I could have my own display, plus be able to use it to influence the service, such as when I was on a H&C train from Liverpool Street waiting at a red signal just outside Aldgate East whilst what seemed like a never-ending convoy of yet more eastbound District Line trains were allowed to jump the queue and go in front of the train I was on. Simon ps: although only heard, fans of 1962 tube stock trains will also love this video.
