Does anyone know if there is a quicker way to do this? Tonight I realised I hadn't touched in when I boarded the tube from the train at Highbury. When I got to KCSP I wandered across to the northbound platform and caught the next train back to Highbury, touched in and caught another southbound train. In total this took me 8-10 minutes by the time I got back to KCSP. Does anyone know if, without running, it would have been quicker to go to the Euston Road exit, put my ticket through the barrier, touched in on another nearby barrier and get back to the Victoria Line?

Officially I believe what you should have done was speak to touch out as normal and the rung the Oyster help desk to get the unresolved journey sorted out. Alternatively you could have spoken to a member of staff on the gateline who would have advised you - I overheard someone do this at South Woodford on Monday evening and they were let through "just this once".

Your best option is always to seek out a member of staff as soon as possible; if you're open and honest then it's likely you'll be allowed out to touch straight back in again "just this once". You can, alternatively, just tap out at your destination and be charged a maximum fare, but this puts you at risk of being stopped by an RPI before you get that opportunity. Obviously the 'official' line is that you must always touch in before you travel, or find a member of staff if you are unable to do so. If there is no member of staff only then can you travel ticketless! With specific regards to King's Cross, if you're on the Vic it'll take max a couple of minutes to make your way up to the Euston Road exit (signposted as such, or follow signs for H&C, C & M), speak to the staff in the Tube ticket hall and then head back down. If you're at the front of the train (going into town) this will be quicker still.
