Well, I didn't know whether to post the article on here, the Circle Line thread, SSR or historic...so it's here. I've finally dug out my pics of 5502 at Ealing Broadway Central line which I took in 1970 and managed to post them on RMweb in the London Underground forum. Linky here: www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/103772-c69-stock-on-the-central-line/Enjoy, sorry about the photo quality, I only had a Ricoh Instamatic at the time.

I'm kinda used to seeing a tube train at an SSR height platform, interesting to see the opposite with a massive step up into the Train.

I don't think I've seen a surface stock at a deep level height platform before! Really highlights just how low they are. You don't tend to notice when the trains using them are the correct height for them!

Reminds me of the height of Uxbridge platform 4 by the signal! The step up to an A stock leading set of doors was pretty big.

Where the Underground took over main line branches, the platforms were brought to a "compromise height". memory tells me it was 1'7.5" but may be wrong...

I think that the last remarks on R M web are on the wrong " track" -excuse pun-- the route from E B and N Acton to W Ruislip was used for surface stock only until Ruislip siding was installed. Since then transfers from main line (4TC's S8's etc: or any other large size stock goes by this way and does not touch the Central line proper. I don't know if the old route is still surface-stock size maintained.
