After a few years i have decided to apply for a Retired Priv Oyster Card. I havealready had the forms authorised by TfL Staff travel. However where do I now go to get the actual Oyster Card now that the majority of Booking Offices are closed. Will the "Roaming" staff have access to Oyster Cards, will they be able to takew the deposit and finally I assume I can add money to my card at any of the POMS in London or do it on line. At the moment my local NR station does not accept Oyster as we are outside the London travel Zone

Is your PRIV due for renewal at the end of December? Might be worth waiting for the new one, otherwise another trip is required to change the number.

No my PTAC is valid until next year. As I'm due to go to London on the 26th of this month I thought I would sort it out then.

They will load the Priv discount onto your Oyster card via the POMS.

How are the forms obsolete I only received them yesterday morning from TfL staff travel. I do not have an Oyster Card as I live outside London. My question is will the staff at stations have access to new Oyster Cards anddo they need to be registered or am I barking up the wrong tree.

My wife got hers in May from Liverpool Street LU station which still had a ticket office. The information centre there could not do it. We got the form stamped and signed by email from TFL and printed it off. It was automatically registered by the clerk at Liverpool St and she put £5 on it. It took about 3-5 minutes to do. It seems to charge 80p a journey up to a maximum of £1.60 for the day. We topped up another £5 in August on a POM and the first £5 was still not used up.

My question is will the staff at stations have access to new Oyster Cards as I understand it they need to be registered or am I barking up the wrong tree. I should have made myself a little clearer, in part; if a station does not have a ticket office then you do not need a form, only your PTAC. Staff do not have access to new Oyster cards, as I mentioned you will need to purchase a new one from either a machine, staffed ticket office or Oyster ticket stop. After you have done this, seek out a member of staff and they will load the discount on for you at the machines. At this stage you will need to carry out a partial registration of the card by adding your postcode and a password, and you are encouraged to carry out a full registration online or via post at your convenience. Once the discount is loaded it can be used as per any other Oyster card.

Just as important is the priv concession on BR that gives holders a quarter fare of what the public pay has been extended for another year. For example Newton Abbot- Paddington used to be $65.50 return based on a quarter of the full return fare meaning a priv holder often paid more than a customer purchasing an advance saver. The fare is now £22.50 return to London. At my local station a friendly booking clerk even split the journey to Penzance as it was cheaper to do the journey with two tickets costing £11 to go from Newton Abbot to Penzance saving £3. It takes longer to get to Penzance than London. www.atoc.org/about-atoc/rail-staff-travel/stop-press/

I think I'm begining to understand now. In which case I purchase the Oyster card from a NR ticket in London for example St Pancras International or is there another alternative outlet at St Panc or Kings Cross.

At KXSP you would need to use the machines in the Underground station to get your new card; neither King's Cross nor St. Pancras NR have Oyster facilities. If you're wanting to get it from KXSP drop me a PM; it's the station I'm based at and I would be happy to help further.
