Before the rise of certain members of society who enjoy painting things without asking first, what sort of security was used in depots or sidings? Was it simply a bobby or two patrolling around the fenceline, or was something more elaborate put in place?

Each depot had a gatehouse manned round the clock, they were generally ex cleaners or green card men. They were supposed to do regular patrols, keep a record of vehicles in and out and operate the telephone switchboard(in the old days all outside calls came in via a switchboard)
