According to STEAM RAILWAY, the 23rd August 1966 saw the last Up train from Nottingham Victoria-Marylebone, with a B1. Does that make it the last steam main line steam loco to travel on the Met before the modern "Steam on the Met" trains? It appears that the very last GCR train may have been a Class 2-hauled Diesel one, a few days later.

There was steam, dont forget working to Croxley tip until 1971, with the GWR Pannier tanks.
The same year, there was an engineers special from Farringdon?-Neasden.
If you are talking about passenger trains, you might be right.

the last steam main line steam loco
i.e. British Railways.
I "did" the Croxley Tip track on the D Stock tour in 1980.
