Just thought I'd say that I'm working on a tube map which includes the Morgan Tubes as proposed in the 1900's. I decided to undertake this after reading the book 'Londons lost tube schemes' which I got for my 18th. Now before anyone gets their hopes up I should warn you I'm not doing it exactly in the style of the currrent tube map. To do all the curves in paint requires too much effort, and I wanted this to be a fairly light hearted thing on my part. So its gonna have a touch of the Hutchinsons about it, but will have station names served by one line in that lines colour, a-la Beck. Currently I'm only doing the central part, but I intend on having the whole of it done soonish.
Points to note are that this will NOT include the Victoria line. Though its speculation I tend to take the authors view that it would not have been that nesessary considering the routing of one of the lines. It will include however the North West London Railway, which in my opinion having an end on junction with the LUER would have become part of the Morgan concern eventually. Also the extension of the piccadilly from Aldwych to Waterloo is on it, because probably it would have had a greater purpose with the vic not being there, and aldwych being an interchange.
I wont be using the LUL sanctioned colours from the tube map but the nearest thing. (Those of you interested as to what exactly they are should buy adobe illustrater cs and import the .pdf version of the tube map/line maps into it - some interesting info is displayed at the bottom of the line maps).
Station names are notional; I've got a parlimentary map of london from 1928 which I locked up the station locations on. That and a bit of common sense have led me to suggest the station names Ive decided on.
I have yet to decide as to whether I should include the Jubilee line (probably will though) and also the eventual destinations of the piccadilly and the PC&NELR.
For those of you who havent heard of the Morgan tubes, they were 3 tube lines that became controlled by the American financer Morgan. They ended up being rejected by parliment due to political monuvering by the LUER with the rival Yerkeys group.
If built they would have been capable of 8x50' car trains, and provided great congestion easing to what is today the Piccadilly line, an probably renderd the Victoria line surplus.
PM me if you want a copy, which I can email you once its done. Alternatively it will be available (somewhere) on my fotopic site; benedict.fotopic.net
However, I have no clue as to the district branch it might have ended up taking over in the west; so I'm going to leave that up to you lot. The four options are Richmond, Ealing Bdy, Uxbridge, or Heathrow.
