Given the large programme of ticket office closures what is happening to the contents of the offices and the redundant ticketing equipment?
Are the offices being gutted with the furniture and fittings been binned? Are the ticket office machines being scrapped or are relevant bits being recovered for re-use as spares? I'm just wondering in *general terms* as to what's happening - I recognise that the passenger operated machines are in adjacent rooms so no need to reveal any security / banking related matters.
TIA

I have been informed that at least one ticket machine needs to be present still anyway for the passenger operated machines to operate as they are controlled from a main ticket machine.

Brief answer - depends on the location, but where possible old ticket offices will be converted to other uses........additional staff accomodation, retail outlet or possibly removed altogether to open up ticket halls.
All stations retain passenger operated machines with many gaining extra machines - again it depends a given location's requirements.

All of the ticket offices on LU should be of a construction such that they are secured against physical attack; walls, doors, windows etc. Many have heavy safes and secure areas for holding various ticket stocks, forms, transaction details and cash. No doubt the construction involves reinforced concrete and extra steel. It's no easy feat to gut them, I'm sure!

Can't speak for anywhere else, but at KXX all of our ticket offices are becoming extra POM space, with the back-of-house areas being repurposed.
We're retaining a TOM in each to allow paper ticket refunds to be processed (Bus + Tram pass) and for certain other functionality. Everything else is going.

You still need a secure location for ticket/card stock... or are the POMs being serviced by a visiting "team", contracted out or otherwise?

Everything else is going. good idea to keep one window for refunds or others but alternate a pop up ticket desk (simllar seen at various places throughout world but new wood lane station has no ticket office - which has one window for refund process only or emergencies king cross has visitor centre - one next to old ticket office - prior this - its wasnt a space for visitor centre about pop up desks i seen instance of those in past - one was in Huddersfield station during refurbishment other one was at st pances station prior to euro star and new EMT platforms and prior a proper ticket office - the desk was located on Midland Midlane trains platforms (now southeast trains platforms) those generally have ticket machines to issue tickets
