The thread about train toilets on Met (or other) services in years gone by has made me think of something else too - did any of these companies ever offer on - train food or anything like that? I know the Met wanted to branch out more as a main line concern so may have thought about it at one stage. I must admit the thought of having a meal while going along the northern side of the Circle seems a bit strange - and I mean a prepared meal not a kebab or McDonalds!!

I think the Pullmans offered at-seat service, and they might have run on a few peak-hour services over the north Circle...

TOK has the concept right. What a lovely idea (for the first class passenger) getting on the Pullman, say at Ricky, then having a superb breakfast on your way to Baker Street!!!
For the rest of the plebs though I don't think food was an option.....

Having a breakfast while going through Wembley Park and Willesden................unimaginable!!! Were there any regulations on the use of ovens, fryers and other kitchen equipment underground?

And a light supper on the way home from the Theatre was also available.
They had a pantry (and I think some sort of bar, though I can find no full reference to that) but not a full kitchen.

Perhaps they should install toast and juice dispensers on the new S Stock!
Put 10p in and choose your juice flavour and toast spreading then wait a minute and there you go!

I'm sure they would if they didn't think the cost of clearing up the mess left by the beggars afterwards was more than the profits they'd make. Imagine the doors jammed by half-eaten sticky toast, or the claims from posh business ladies for the cost of cleaning their business suits after being smeared with the stuff dispensed from your machines! Lovely ideas though!

Hmm, reminds me of one of my "Intercity land cruise's" eating our evening meal in the restaurant train diverted through the Glasgow underground!!

I must admit I've always fancied the idea of having an on - train meal - not the sort you'd get today but Pullman service, or maybe one of the main line expresses in the days before nationalisation. Expensive I know but it would have been interesting to see what it was like.

Freshly cooked, good value, and a full meal can be ordered as little as 40mins travelling time from your destination!

Unfortunately I don't go that way very often. 40 minutes? That is good. I'ld like to do that, but Slammers on the Lymington line is first on the list of NR conquests, my first LU one being a visit to Shoreditch (even though I visited and took photos recently, but as it's gonna close I'll go again).

I assume you mean the low level sections through Central or Queen Street... otherwise your restaurant train on the Glasgow Underground sounds more like a good night out followed by a kebab on the way home!
