How many trains ran on the Met (and indeed the other railways) with toilets on? I understand that this facility was locked out of use on underground sections but it would be interesting to know how long these lasted. Also were there any experiments to enable them to be used underground (such as holding tanks etc)?

Were there lavvies on the Met? I know there were toilets on the Districts to Southend, which were locked out on the underground sections (even though they were retention toilets!) but Toilets on the Met is new to me. Can someone else elucidate??

I must admit the Southend services did spring to mind - but I thought the Met may have had some of these facilities too. Was the stock used on the Chesham shuttle unitl electrification built with toilets? Also was the T stock ever designed with them?

T stock were compartmented throughout as were the dreadnoughts, so no toilets i'm afraid. The pullmans did though afaik.

The new 'S' stock should have toilets, first class and a buffet car... And that's just in the driving cab! ;D

Something i've always wanted to say over the pa:
This is the richmond and wimbledon service calling at all stations to Earls court where the train will then divide. Please make sure you travel in the correct part of the train!! customers for . . . . . . .
The buffet is in cars 1 to 6 where previous customers have discarded their food and we now offer a library service in all cars courtesy of the Sun, the mirror, metro and the (no) standard. The toilet is in between cars 1 and 2, 2 and 3 . . . . . . .
Reckon i'd get away with it? ;D

In the early days, the Met had through trains from the Great Western, Great Northern, and Midland Railways to Moorgate. Some of these trains may have had toilets, although it's unlikely as they would have been suburban compartment stock.
