It is completely and utterly impossible to gain 2 years in the planning and powers stage of a project. A massive amount of design work has to be clarified to make sure that the correct powers are sought. I can see nothing in that interview with Michelle Dix nor on the CR2 website that suggests it is feasible to gain 2 years at this point of the project. Ms Dix will know better than many that considerable pitfalls potentially lie ahead - who knows what issues will emerge from local campaigns against elements of the proposed scheme. There are no guarantees that the scheme will obtain powers and trying to push the scheme with undue haste will bring criticism. You keep insisting on things being accelerated when there is no evidence that anyone is seeking that. We are simply in a lobbying phase because of the Spending Review this Autumn and, of course, TfL and the Mayor will be pitching for as much as they can get. You appear to have missed that Boris has created a Growth Commission for CR2 to try to pull together support and maximise economic generation potential. Still all part of the lobbying process. Doesn't mention the new Pridley International Airport in Enfield though. Promo video from CR2 Don't quite understand why the young lady in a wheelchair in Barking wants CR2. It's not going to improve any transport to or in Barking!

snoggle -it's worth noting that £250m doesn't actually buy you a lot of design and prep work - typically, these come to around 5-10% of total project costs,so the total bill before shovels are picked up in anger, as it were, could go much higher. BTW, why is the Thames such an unusual colour in the video - a bad day for the pollution perhaps?

OK. So you think it is impossible BUT, I am simply citing from the Crossrail 2 website. If it is "COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE" then why does Crossrail 2 cite such variations? By the way, just to clarify, this is a question. It seems that every time here that I ask a question, I am insisting or making a statement, but I am not: crossrail2.co.uk/next-steps/It states that Planning / Powers will be complete between 2017 and 2020 and the Mayor HAS recently stated that it could be complete 2028 rather than 2030. I did not say that it would be accelerated, I asked the question about whether it could be. Obviously you think not. And I did not insist ANYTHING, I asked a question, but as per usual you seek to be patronising and frankly, very rude and abrupt. Incidentally, I have not missed Boris's new growth commission. Bear in mind that this will probably morph into something similar to the Olympic Development Authority for the Lee Valley, because it is very clear that Council's like Haringey are blocking change of use from industrial to residential. STAR almost didn't happen, because Haringey were reluctant to release enough land around Angel Road for housing to make it stack up. This is about lobbying, but it is also about having an organisation in place so that the Mayor can make use of new powers once building begins.

Have you any reference for this alleged blocking by Haringey?? All I've seen is Haringey getting criticism from the usual NIMBY's for pushing what they call "over-development'. Haringey are Very keen on Star and Crossrail 2!

This is about lobbying, but it is also about having an organisation in place so that the Mayor can make use of new powers once building begins. It is entirely possible that different bits of the CR2 website are not up to date. Of course the Mayor is going to pitch for early dates because he is lobbying mode and trying to generate pressure for that date. Whether his dates have any substance to them is open to debate. I am afraid Boris has something of a reputation of saying what people want to hear and being able to face in both directions on a policy issue at the same time. My remark is based on some limited understanding of what it takes to get a project through the legislative process. CR2 is a massive scheme with massive implications for people and business in multiple boroughs in London and possibly adjacent counties. No matter how adept TfL and Network Rail are there will always be opposition and petitioning. I am afraid the scale of CR2 is such that I can't see how 2 years could be taken out of the design stage and then the powers stage. There is also an interaction between the powers process and design if you need to go back and redesign things to achieve a settlement with petitioners. I mentioned the Growth Commission because it had not been mentioned anywhere on this forum. It's not all about you. The example of CR1 is that it took decades to secure approval and funding. While I expect CR2 won't be as bad as that I think it is a tough enough task to get to powers being secured by 2020 with the potential for construction to start not long after that. We do need to consider how London will be able to cope with both HS2 and CR2 being built at the same time. There may be unacceptable construction impacts that can't be resolved satisfactorily.
