Is the Aircon cut out until the city? Sitting on trains from Chesham to London, I've noticed the Aircon doesn't seem to cut in till we get to past Finchley Road. Is there a limit to the electricity draw by the trains in certain areas?

It was working fine throughout as far as I could tell when I travelled from Chesham to Aldgate this morning. In fact, the doors were being closed much faster than usual when someone boarded - I guess to allow the aircon to do its thing effectively.

There are no operating restrictions on S Stock air-con. The driver has little control over the passenger environment, other than being able to switch off the saloon lights and isolate the air-con because of fault or emergency.

The two factors I can think of would be the heat give off by the human body, equivalent of 100 Watts per person, say 1000 people peak x 100 would be 100,000 watts of heat energy. Add to that the effect of sunlight streaming in through the windows would more than likely tax the air-con until you reach tunnel section (Finchley road) where there is little sun.

I had 21065 on Monday from Rayners Lane to Wembley Park, and sitting in the sun it felt as if the air conditioning was not working. But move away from it and it was working perfectly. If it actually wasn't working then it would be very hot and stuffy and you'd just know it. Earlier I ended up on a Thameslink 377 where part of a coach didn't have it working, and I had to move.

Because of pti issues (people falling between trains and platform) at Baker Street, train doors are left open at baker Street, letting hot air into the trains, It will take until at least Finchley road for trains to cool down again.
