TfL have published a paper setting out plans, funding and timescales for upgrading the suburban stations on current NR bits of what will become Crossrail. tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/fpc-20150617-item12-part-1-crossrail-stations.pdfBrief points - provides a consistent scope of service delivery and quality at all stations. The scope varies at individual stations. - makes all stations accessible where there wasn't already funding in the CR1 project budget. - fills in where Crossrail were not going to upgrade stations - allows "hard to gate" stations to be gated by opening new entrances or decluttering ticket halls. - Great Eastern stations to be complete by May 2017 as Crossrail brand launches then when Class 345 trains come into service. - Great Western station works run from May 2017 to late 2019 to coincide with launch of full through services. - Project will utilise skills and experience from the Overground station modernisation programme.

The upgrade of Maidenhead Station is taking forever And is being done on the cheap. The work started almost a year ago and has seen the old canopy and train shed removed from Platform 4/5 as well as the canopy on Platform2/3
The existing supporting posts are being reused for the new higher platform canopies and with platform 2/3 partially complteted with the the old roof sections for the lifts still in situ. Platform 4/5 has had no canopies for months and plastic sheeting was added after passenger complaints although I understand it has now being removed and free showers are available to commuters once again!
I cannot see Maidenhead Station portraying a dynamic modern station for a new high class service more like an old chair that has had a new cover fitted badly to it! Then there is the lovely sound of Diesel engines as the Marlow Branch is wireless (no not Bluetooth)
I hope that the TFL funding will prove me wrong and sparkly (electrification permitting) new station will arise from the track ballast!
