Over the past two years, the Northern line platforms at TCR have been gradually refurbished to the point where most of the floor abd wall tiling and has been replaced. However, almost work appears to have been done for the last 6 months. Is there a reason for this?

As I understand it, the platforms were not 'refurbished' as such, they (or rather the tunnels they sit in) were 'reshaped' - going from circular to more of a C shape. This was done to house the necessary staircases. etc. for Crossrail interconnections. Then things were, you might say, 'made good'.
More visible work will undoubtedly happen once Crossrail gets closer.
