Shame that Bachmann are only supplying via the L T museum as you can normally get discounts from other suppliers. I think the prices are a bit exorbitant. Well seeing as the LT Museum have commissioned it it's not at all surprising that it's only available through them. The price is reasonable for what is being offered. Sadly I feel I must retract at least part of my previous comments about the cost of the S stock being reasonable. This was based on the understanding that it was going to be an accurate representation of the trains and of a similar standard to models seen on the continent, which it appeared to be from the pre-release material. Having now received both of my full S8 sets I've been able to give them a full appraisal, and I'm somewhat disappointed. All of the various intermediate cars (MS, M1 and M2) are generalised and near-identical (save for numbers and wheelchair symbols on the MS cars) - I can forgive this for the underframe equipment as it's not something most would notice (It's all as per an M1, as far as I can tell), but the MS cars are noticeable for having identical windows - one window should be smaller than the remainder to account for the wheelchair partition. There's also some quality control issues with the quality of the printed details (Door warning stickers, door buttons etc) differing from car to car in quality and legibility, and the DMI displays on the DM cars are also rather poor when viewed head-on - there's glue residue and other imperfections on all four of my DMs. Thankfully, most of this isn't too much of a major issue as I had already identified a rolling programme of upgrades and super-detailing for both trains, but it has added to the work load, particularly where the windows are concerned. Watch this space for more on this as I'm hoping to chart the progress of both this and my new layout. Yes, it's not a big deal, but for such a "special" commission and high price tag it's the sort of thing that one would have hoped to have been spot on. That said - it's still a very good representation of the S stock, and will meet the needs of the vast majority of those buying it... (Don't worry, I'm fully aware I'm a slightly-miserable, cynical perfectionist!)

I'm still undecided about this model, it is a tad expensive plus some negative points that have been highlighted here and elsewhere. The issues that I find disappointing are the two outer driving cars appear to sit slightly higher than the others and no interior lighting or electrical connection between cars, unlike the Bachmann Blue Pullman set.
Just a thought.... now Bachmann are linked with EFE maybe we might get ready to run Tube stock?

The two DM cars are ever so slightly higher than the others but you wouldn't notice it unless you looked for it. Not a major problem for me as mine are all getting rebogied and regauged so I'll solve the problem then. The lack of electrical connection also isn't a major issue as there's nothing to warrant it, although I do agree that interior lighting would have been nice - albeit probably have pushed the cost up even further(!). What lighting there is seems to be of good quality, although I've not had mine on a track yet to check it out so am going off photos of others'. Further RTR tube stock would be rather nice...

The interior lighting on that set is far too 'white' - the S stock have a much warmer interior. Think I'll stick to the plans I already have in motion...

Oh dear... received my 4 cars 'S' stock train pack and 'Light and Sound' accessory this morning from LTM... what a disappointment! One of the dummy pick-up shoes popped off when removing from packaging, defective electrical connection on one of the power cars, one of the rear red tail lights was dimmer than the other and generally very disappointing attention to details for £280. Needless to say the whole lot has been returned for a refund, Very disappointing, Bachmann need to tighten up their quality control.

I ended up buying the full eight car set, and I too am slightly disappointed.
The LTM staff advised that for the full S8 I'd probably need to fit the traction tyres. Honestly, if the performance is such that it needs traction tyres, at £440 I'd expect them to come fitted. The process to fit them yourself seems to be to remove the body, then the PCB, then disconnect the bogie from the cardan shaft to the motor, then split the bogie, before changing the axle and reassembling. Times two (both DMs need doing). Takes about 35-40 minutes per car. Even then one end of the train has a habit of going dead, leaving the other end to do all the work which it can't manage), the end result being the working DM derailing itself or the adjacent car.
10/10 for inspiration, 6/10 for realisation, I think.

Maybe the S8s need to go back to china for modification. I wonder if Bachmann can lend people some S7+1s!!

Shame that Metromodels did'nt get in sooner with this. (Or previous S/stock.) I'm glad metromodels didn't get in sooner as the price tag would have been more

I'm looking to repaint the yellow door step plates on the trailers cars but I'm unsure as to how to remove the body. I know the motor cars are screwed on but am I just supposed to pull the trailer cars off, and if so from where should I pull/unclip?

Start at one end, slide your fingernails underneath the body between the blue stripe and sole bar, just by the grey articulation, and then slide all the way through to the end. Shouldn't need any force at all.

Any combination is possible with scale models: mine will be the S8.750√(2×(52÷6.5)).

That made no sense at all on my smartphone, which misread the superscript so the answer came up as S35 (!).

my brain switches off when confronted by the foreign language of algebraic hieroglyphics. Could someone translate this into spoken English please?
Thanks.

Any combination is possible with scale models: mine will be the S8.75 0√(2×(52÷6.5)). I am quite tired, so might get this wrong but: 8.75^0 = 1 52/6.5 = 8 2x8 = 16 sqrt 16 = 4 .: S1*4 = S4

Excellent! I can use the smart phone excuse too! Still clueless! I assume that is meant to be the zeroth power of 8.75, and not the zeroth root of (2x 52/6.5) I'm not actually sure what a zeroth root would mean - presumably a number raised to an infinite power?

Well the n-th root of some number x is usually treated as x to the power of: 1/ n. Or: x^(1/ n). Since division by 0 is generally undefined, the 0-th root is undefined. Anyway, apparently Bachmann are producing an S stock model ...

That number is actually a satirical reference to the ridiculous model rail consists some modellers will come up with, like a Peppercorn Tornado hauling S7/8 Stock trailers, impossibly long trains and the what not: it gets worse on PC simulators.
