Whilst waiting westbound at Northfields, an eastbound train arrived with leading car having an old destination blind. The rear of the train however had a dot matrix. Nothing out of the ordinary.
But it was the destination itself. The train was going to Arnos Grove and whilst the blind said this, it read "Arnos Grove \U".
Just hoping someone can explain what it means, whether it's a glitch or some code for something.

I have no knowledge of the Picc but where I have seen a special code on a blind it has meant that the train is continuing to the depot rather than reversing.

This is a glitch; the new and old displays are not compatible, and there are a few errors that will appear if they are mated together. In short, if the front unit has an old LCD display then the rear unit will glitch to display \U after the destination, which will also appear in block capitals. For Heathrow there are a number of different permutations and errors. If the front unit has a new LED display then the rear unit will show nothing at all (Or, at best, one or two letters). The train number is not affected and displays correctly at both ends.

Ahh, that makes sense now. I saw a couple trains just displaying C on the rear cab and one with nothing at all. Well thanks for clearing that up

You said: 'The train was going to Arnos Grove and whilst the blind said this, it read "Arnos Grove \U"', which gave the impression that the blind had been printed with a trailing '\U', which seemed seriously strange. However, the explanation given was that the electronic display had the spurious characters - which isn't really surprising, at all. You seem some seriously weird stuff on LU's dot matrix indicators from time to time.

It must be the programming language that the old DMI took literally.
