This seems to be an endemic problem at Romford, hence the cryptic message "Romford?" at Shenfield on the up main starter. Yesterday on the 0938 Stratford to Norwich, I had the window down ready to grasp the outside handle on the Mk3 whilst approaching Chelmsford, whereupon the the driver accelerated to about 55mph rather than slowed. In the event, he stopped about a mile east, whilst the conductor came on the tannoy to apologise for what he called an "overrun". Passengers were incandescent, including a barrister appearing in court, a chap attending a funeral, and me, with a quite important meeting! However, I must say AGA control reacted well. The train was moved onto Witham, and an up 12-car EMU diverted into the northernmost platform to afford cross-platform interchange, thus affording a crossing of all the tracks at Witham in a service train. Not sure if this is unusual or commonplace. Hatfield Peverel was the nearest station to the stopped train, but has an awkward footbridge. In the end, we were about half an hour late. Presumably drivers in the Class 90s don't have in-cab announcements, or if they do, turn them off? What would have been the consequences of this for the driver? How common are such incidents?

Many years ago what should have been the first Inter City southbound train to stop at Milton Keynes Central cruised through the station leaving us standing.
It then stopped and reversed back to the platform and picked us up.

It then stopped and reversed back to the platform and picked us up. I read of that happening on the opening day at Sandwell & Dudley. Surely it didn't happen twice?
