Although there is a page on my web site about CHT, it's possible that some of you may have missed it or, possibly, not realised what a unique organisation this is in the attempts it makes to preserve a variety of London Underground history. Have a read of my site at www.trainweb.org/districtdave/html/cravens_heritage_trains.htmlBut - more importantly - please consider seriously joining the organisation. Not only would they welcomr the financial support that your membership will give, but it would be an opportunity for you to get actively involved with some preservation work. Go on - you know it makes sense!

Dave is it very possible, if I joined CHT's for example, to actually visit the 1960/62 TS? I understand these trains are in depots and a valid PTS card is required, which not being a railway employee I have not got. Is it possible to get a PTS privately? Also is there a different card for non - electrified and electrified tracks?

I suggest the best thing to do is to get it from the 'Horses Mouth' - in this case Bob Yeldham, who's email address is bob.yeldham21@btopenworld.com - I know he'd be delighted to hear from you and I'm sure he will answer this specific point, and any other questions you may have. Mention that you've picked up the detials from my site - he's a good mate of mine and will respond to you asap I'm sure. Dave

Dave; another thing: Does the CHT have a bank or giro account? And if so, could they perhaps publish the details on their website? I am thinking of people like me, for whom a membership is not really a working proposition, but who could imagine themselves making a little donation now and then.

I will be pleased to answer all questions regarding CHTL.
We do have a Bank Acc. and I will have a word with my fellow Directors about publishing the Sort Code and Acc. No.
Providing a Track Competent person is available, visiting the 60 & 62TS are not a problem.
Bob.

Why was CHTL set up? Why are you called "Cravens" given that the 62s were built by Met-Cammell? Re bank account. Rather than publish sensitive info on a public website why not take donations through Paypal and/or Nochex?

We bought the Cravens Unit first and needed a name, so we came up with the Cravens Preservation Group, two years later the Company was formed becoming Cravens Heritage Trains Ltd. Initially the majority of members were from the Ongar Railway Preservation Soc. but since then we have become reasonably well known and have many members from all corners of the UK and some overseas as well.
As the Cravens Unit is unique in it's own right we decided to save it for future generations, with the demise of the Track Recorder ours will be the only pair of 60TS around, well worth saving I think, don't you?

Are you sure it's to be destroyed? I recall Met App saying elsewhere that the train might be turned over to CHTL pending removal of the track recording equipment after the new TRC is brought online.

The person to whom you are responding is (despite his rather 'unusual' user name) Chairman of CHTL, so I think it reasonable to say that if he discusses the demise of the Track recorder he's *probably* in a better position than most

Ah, my unusual choice of names maybe unusal to some but in Wood Lane Control Room where I have the dubious pleasure of attending to earn a living, I am known as 'Nutter' and strangely enough have been known to ignore my real name only to respond to 'Nutter, are you bloody deaf'.
Anyway back to the question in hand. I have been 'approached' on the TRV subject and as far as I am aware if we don't take it then a supply of metal for Baked Bean cans is assured.
I would dearly love to take it from them in an operational condition but there would be very large strings attached from CHTL. I don't know what/who Met App is, maybe Met Apprentice but I really don't know maybe someone would like to point him/her/it this way and reveal more, it would be a crying shame and a disgrace on LUL to let the TRV go for scrap.
One of the reasons for strings would be the enormous cost of maintaing it, as we have just found out the cost to our Unit will be in the region of £6000 pa, that might make it a bit clearer as to why we (CHTL) needs to raise funds on a regular 'income' basis.

I should add that any donations however big or small are and will be gratefully excepted by CHTL.

I was merely remarking on Met Apprentice's speculation on such. Still, if CHTL can't afford it, and Acton won't take it, I guess that's that.
