One of our deceased members has left the club some signs
One which needs a bit more info is a sign which, i would guess is a destination sign used on the front of units
It has East Ham on one side and Ealing on the other It looks to be maroon coloured and measures about 15 in by 4 inches
Other clues are that it would seem to be slid into place as there are two thicker strips at each end
Pictures are available if reqd
Any initial thoughts?

I had one similar with Whitechapel on one side and Wimbledon on the other never knew where it came from but it was given to a good home

A photo would be great. I'm guessing it is an ex Q stock destination but would be interested to see it.

Would think from my collection these were from the C/P stock on the District line, the Q stock plates were longer and had steel ends, the modern post 1938 era has shorter plates with brass ends

The standard size for '38, Q27, Q38, O, P Stock is as shown, usually ring-bound (middle/bottom): the longer plates would've been for Q23 and earlier, as mentioned, mounted on the outside of the cab.

I'd suggest that the Q23 plates were the same length as the C/O/P/Q stock plates. I have one with SOUTH ACTON and Northfields on the other side which fell into my bag many years ago off a Q23 and is the same size as the others.
Later plates had 2 holes in the top and were secured by metal rings so the driver or guard could flip them over. Some plates had the original destinations covered with vinyl stickers, so remove them ad some interesting places come up: Hainault via Newbury Park being one! so from standard stock.
