I was watching a video earlier and the eastbound starting signal at Gunnersbury - GB8 - cleared green with number 4 junction indicator. Nothing interesting about that, a District line train has been cleared to Turnham Green - as it should be. What I happened to notice, though, was RWK11A was yellow when the train passed it, meaning that the next signal after GB8 - WK11A - must have been red when GB8 cleared. That being so, why did it not display caution? Does it treat RWK11A as though it were a distant? If so, why? I was under the impression that standard Network Rail practise was to treat distants as distinct from repeaters.

Maybe it's a bodge where the two signalling systems integrate? Set for LU the section in advance is two aspect with a "distant" signal.

I see Thanks very much both, I suppose LU's repeaters are quite different to Network Rail's repeaters.

NR only has banner repeaters, anything else would be a distant signal.

NR only has banner repeaters, anything else would be a distant signal. To all intents and purposes I believe that's true, although if this comprehensive page is to be believed some colour-light repeaters were installed in some locations, especially tunnels. They are now obsolescent, though.

NR only has banner repeaters, anything else would be a distant signal. Not strictly true. I can think of a few examples where a colour light repeater is used. If it were a colour light distant the number plate would take the number of the controlling distant signal lever but also be marked to indicate that the signal cannot display a danger aspect. In the case of the Gunnersbury/Turnham Green boundary, consider GB8 to act as a three aspect signal for moves towards South Acton and two aspect for moves to Turnham Green. In such cases, all that is conveyed is a proceed aspect and the only indication of the aspect on the following signal is given by it's repeater.
