While on the subject of guards in my last thread, were guards duties the same as the drivers ones, and did drivers get 'paired' with one or a few guards often?

What do you mean by "duties"? If you mean turns of duty then yes.
Guards and Motormen (later Train Drivers) were rostered together, the other half of the pair being referred to as one's "regular mate".
There was also the facility to swap turns and so you might find yourself working with any driver (or Guard) from your depot.

Regarding pairing of Motormen and Guards. In general you could NOT be rostered as a regular crew with a relative (Father/Brother/Son etc) due to the possiblity of fatal accidents and such. However you COULD do turns with your relative for a week or when covering annual leave from the pool. I often had changeovers with other guards to run with my Dad as it made for convenience at home
