Just seen some S stock at Dagenham Heathway going west bound. When did they start running from upminster? Anyone know why it took so long to get out this way?

Have a read of the SSR thread; all the answers are in there, although you'll have to scroll back a few pages!

They started running from Upminster last week, when the first District Main line services switched over from D stock. There is limited siding space on the Underground - it has to be one in, one out. S stocks have of course been running as far as Barking for some time on the Hammersmith and City line, where they replaced the C stock

Why is it that at Dagenham east the front set of doors on s stock do not open even though there is enough room.

This is on platform 2 EB. It's caution, arguably overcaution, about open space at the platform edge in front of the D78 stopping position when a D78 is present. Supposed to be resolved after the service is all S stock. The S stock stopping position can't be moved back because that would give a clash at the rear end with the D78 OPO monitors for the reversing move... There's a similar situation at Hornchurch 2 EB, also supposed to be resolved after D78s are gone.
